These aren't new, but I've only now taken notice they exists. There were plenty of interesting shades on the stand, but no testers, so I grabbed one that had the nicest looking colour of the back. From Essence's current selection these are most like their discontinued original lipliner formula everyone liked expect me. This one has the waterproof and a reasonable 6h claim.  

Texture: Formula is very soft and glides with such ease on the lips. It's much softer than Contouring and Draw the Line ones, but I can still be precise with it. However, it needs to be sharpened very often.

Shade: 08 Thank you berry much is a medium warm pink, not really a berry and as it's more of a medium warm pink with no hints of purple.

Staying power: This formula isn't better than at the Soft Contouring ones, so it disappears within the first few hours off my lips, depending on what I was going. Essence's discontinued Draw the line formula was more long-lasting and actually more waterproof.

Price and availability: I got mine is Müller. This formula is the most expensive one among Essence liners with a price of 2.19 €.

Draw the Line Instant Colour lipliners have been around for a while and I actually already have a full review of the shade called 05 so un-grey-ful. I planned on getting more shades of these because I was impressed by the staying power of that shade, but it slipped my mind until recently when I fell in love with Essence's Soft Contouring lipliner in the shade 08 Big Proposal, which is an amazing natural colour for me, but the staying power isn't the best. I then remembered this line and I grabbed the shade that looked most natural and wearable.  

Texture: These are some of the thickest liners, with a slightly sticky texture that doesn't wipe of easily when applied on the lips. It applies ok on the lips due to the creamy texture, but it's not as smooth as Essence's Stay True Waterproof lipliners (which ironically are less long lasting). I wear this shade a lot instead of a lipstick, just on its own and it doesn't feel drying or uncomfortable. I was warned on my IG that these dry out quickly and I managed to dig out my old 05 shade, which really is not useful anymore, so you have to use it up in the first months.

Colour: I have the shade 07 Eternal Beauty which is a light-medium muted pink. It's definitely a colour for my skin tone and one of the prettiest in my collection. It's currently my no-brainer colour that just grab in the morning and wear on its own.

Staying power: These have the best staying power out of Essence's liners. However, though it can't be wiped off easily when fresh applied, it doesn't perform quite as outstanding on the lips, but for the price I'm not complaining.

Price and availability: I got mine in Müller for 1.59 €. Only one was unswatched out of four, since they don't have testers, so check every one before you buy one of these.

This is my third shade of these liners, which are my second favourite formula behind Bourjois Contour Edition. They have a good formula for precise definition and filling in the lips, though they are less soft than their popular predecessors. I already have a review of other two shades if you're interested in swatches of those. 

Formula: This new version is less creamy than the previous, so they last longer and are a lot more precise, but despite the waxier texture they are not drying. The first version of their lipliners was very creamy and smudgy, so getting a crisp line was impossible, however, they were a nice substitute for a lipstick because you could fill in the entire lips without that drying, chalky feeling. The new soft contouring ones are still creamy and easy to apply, but the Soft Contouring ones are a lot more waxy, so they don't move or smudge and you don't need to constantly sharpen them either. 

Shade: 08 big proposal is a shade that's close to my natural colour, it's just a bit darker. It's a muted light-medium peachy-pink that leans more to peach on me and it's a great defining colour which looks natural, so it can be used to cheat the lip line. I got this shade after seeing it at Adjusting Beauty and as is usual for such light shades it looks completely different on my neutral pale skin tone than on her very warm one, but I expected that and it's still the type of shade I'll use a lot.

Staying power: Just like the previous versions, these don't have a great staying power. I don't want to do an estimate in hours, but I can say that they don't last thought eating, they survive drinking relatively ok and it's easy to wipe off. But that's their only minus and if you didn't mind that at the old version, you won't mind it at this either.

Price and availability: I bought it in Müller for 1.19 €.

Essence discontinued their Longlasting lipliners which were some of my favourites and they replaced them with these Draw the Line Instant Colour Lipliners. Both are automatic liners with a sharpener in the back, so actually the only difference in the packaging is the colour of the cap. Originally I thought these are exactly the same as the previous version, which to me was a good thing already and then when I was making swatches I noticed these are actually an improved formula, so I'm even happier about that.

Texture: These behave much the same as the old Longlasting liners, meaning they are creamy, smooth, pigmented and easy to apply (also all over the lips). They aren't super precise like harder, more waxy liners are, but they still precise enough and do the job of keeping the lipstick in place as well as shape the lips better.

Colour: I got 05 so un-grey-tful which is a cool greyish mauve shade. Compared to Plum Cake from the previous line it's darker and more greyish-brown.

Staying power: Now this where I noticed that difference I mentioned before. While I was swatching the old and new formula I noticed that unlike the old one, this doesn't rub off as quickly. The formula sticks much better on the lips and needs a remover to get it off, so you get a much longer lasting lip liner than other Essence's offerings and that includes their lipsticks too.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the improvement of the staying power and the fact that despite that Essence managed to keep that same creamy, comfortable formula of their predecessors. Price is unbeatable, so if you're on a search for a good lipliner, these are worth checking out.

Essence's previous version of classic lipliners were some of the most liked lip pencils in the drugstore and praised for their softness, so it came as quite a surprise that they discontinued them. Some shades were probably part of the line for probably the longest out of all their products (impressive considering they usually last no more than a year) and they switched the entire line with these called Soft Contouring. I haven't seen many reviews about these, so I'm not sure how fans of these reacted, but I disliked the previous version and find these a big improvement.

06 under my skin

06 under my skin is a mid toned peachy-pink shade. Like always imagine this shade lighter on yourself if you're darker than NC/W10, but it's a deeper version of Catrice's I got You Babel. I really like this shade for my colouring on its own and it combines well with the shades I wear.

 05 melt your heart

05 melt your heart is a red that's got some rusty vibe and it's not a vibrant version of the shade. 

Staying power: Just like the previous versions, these don't have a great staying power. I don't want to do an estimate in hours, but I can say that they don't last thought eating, survive drinking relatively ok and it's very easy to wipe off. But that's their only minus and if you didn't mind that at the old version, you won't mind it at this either.

Overall I'm happy with the new version of Essence lipliner and will probably get a shade or two, though most of the colour aren't that pretty. 

Admittedly I was never a big fan of Essence lip products. To me staying power is one the most important characteristics and Essence kinda just can't quite manage to take that step forward and create a proper longlasting product, no matter how many they name that way. Strangely, their sister brand Catrice doesn't seem to have such problems, but as much as unimpressed I'm with Essence lip products, their Longlasting lipliners are some of my favourite lip pencils. I've had 03 Yummy Berry and 05 Lovely Frappuccino in my collection for about a year now and I've finally added some more colours. I got shades 02 Sweetheart, 06 A Girl's Dream, 07 Plum Cake and 10 Berry on my Mind. The latter is the newest shade added in the latest line update.

Texture: Although these are still creamy, the texture is less soft than at their "original" regular lipliners (they changed the formula last year and based on my experience with one shade, the change is substantial) which is a good thing because it means a higher level of precision, but because these can't be sharpened, once they are blunt, the edges aren't super sharp any more. The formula is closer to a lipstick than a lip liner, they apply nicely without dragging and aren't drying, though they aren't moisturising either.

02 Sweetheart

Sweetheart is a medium Barbie pink. I haven't got a single shade like it in my collection. Everything I have is either peachier or more muted than this, so I can't compare it to anything, but it's super cute on the lips.

06 A Girl's Dream

A Girl's Dream is a muted warm red. It's a nice shade to combine with Golden Rose Velvet Matte lipstick 12 and all other similar shades. This is my favourite to wear on its own.

07 Plum Cake

Plum Cake is a medium greyish mauve-violet shade. While I knew there is a 99% chance this will look bad on my skin tone, I actually didn't think it'd be this tragic. I strongly suspected this shade will look cooler and greyer on me than on majority of others, but this is corpse grey on me. I really don't think it suits me and Lovely Frappuccino is my ultimate 90's style shade instead. Check here how different Plum Cake looks on my fellow blogger Taya.

10 Berry on my Mind

10 Berry on my mind is a medium muted plum shade. It's a lot lighter on the lips than the packaging might indicate. I thought it'll be a nice deep burgundy budget lip liner based on the press release pictures, but it's way to light to combine it with proper vampy shades. 

Staying power is decent. It's nothing special, but these outlast all other Essence lip products. It doesn't really survive eating that well, but drinking doesn't wipe it off completely.

Price and availability: These are super cheap at 1.59 € per piece. I got mine in Müller. They are a great way to test if a certain type of colour suits you and I hope Essence continues to add new shades.
