BOURJOIS Healthy Mix Serum Roll-on Concealer
četrtek, februar 13, 2025I'm a long-time fan of Healthy Mix foundation and a couple of other Bourjois concealer formulas were my favourite (both discontinued), so I thought this will surely be my new favourite. First impressions were not excellent, but I've warmed up to it, though it works better for me when my skin isn't very dry. It claims to be vegan, its formula is infused with vitamins C, E & B5 (panthenol) and caffeine, so it combines skin care with coverage, it promises to make the skin look more awake and radiant - standard stuff really, but what sets it apart from the others is the metal ball applicator, which you typically see at eye creams. There are six shades and unlike the "classic"/other Healthy Mix concealer with the doe foot applicator, it has a pale shade, called 49 Ivory (but it skips shade 50).
Formula: it's a standard creamy concealer and it feels nicely hydrating at application, so you have plenty of time to work with it. On my "summer skin" it blends well, looks fresh after application and it's a good formula for a non-makeup look. However in the winter when my skin is more dry, when I start to blend it in, it doesn't go smoothly and the finish ends up being flat, more matte than not. On those days I make sure there is a glowy foundation under it, preferably one that doesn't set fast, so this has something to blend into. This formula reminds me a lot of the old Healthy Mix concealer that was in a tube and has been discontinued for years (it was replaced by the one in a tube with a doe foot applicator). I think I used up a couple of tubes when my skin wasn't as dry, but I made a switch to their discontinued Radiance Reveal formula which suited me better. On dry skin I had best results with a small dense brush when it came to blending, while I had trouble with fingers or a sponge. On less dry skin all manners of application look ok.
Coverage and finish: Coverage is about a medium and it covers my circles and redness quite well. It doesn't cover freckles completely. When I tried it the first time I was surprised at how flat and almost dry this looked on my skin, especially since the new Healthy Mix foundation is even more hydrating and glowy than the previous version of the formula (that was changed at least a few times). On less dry skin it's more natural looking, but not as glowy as the foundation from this range. Their Serum Foundation is similar, but due to the thinner formula starts emphasising texture, while this concealer does not.
Shade: 49 Ivory is a very light shade that fits me well, but I have lighter concealers. It's the lightest shade I've ever tried from Bourjois, who tend to make shades with more pronounced undertones.
Scent: It's scented with the typical fruity Healthy Mix scent.
Packaging: The applicator is made from two parts - the centre, where the concealer is squeezed out of, is plastic and that is surrounded by rotating metal. That makes it pleasantly cooling to apply, but the metal rolling "barrel" doesn't aid blending at all. The applicator is more meant for depuffing - though I can't confirm that is has that effect. For application, I either just squeeze it directly on the skin or on the back of my hand and then blend it with either a sponge, brush or fingers. It's not easy to control the amount squeezed out, so you mostly end up with too much.
Price and availability: I bought in online because they had the lightest shade, but it's sold in drugstores here for about 15 €.
