Revlon Colorstay Skin Awaken 5-in-1 Concealer

The newest concealer by Revlon that promises to cover, brightening and care for the skin. Like their Photoready Candid concealer it contains caffeine and vitamin C, first for potential instant reduction in puffiness and the second in the stable Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate form that fights pigmentation. Personally I prefer the ingredients list of Candid, as it has niacinamide high on the list, but in terms of performance I like both and they work similarly on me.

Texture: Formula is light and easy to blend. It doesn't dry too fast, so you can get a seamless transition easily and the applicator also helps a to achieve an even and natural application.

Coverage & finish: This is well pigmented formula, so you can get a good amount of coverage even with thin coats. It has about medium-high coverage without looking heavy, so it's the type of formula I like, one that blends into the skin invisibly and it's not so matte it would look obvious on my dry skin. It's also not a dewy formula, but at this moment my skin makes everything more matte, so I can't tell you the finish on normal, combination or oily skin. It covers my redness under my eyes and on the sides of the nose ok and it can cover an inflamed blemish too without looking too cakey. But those who like those thicker, matte concealers like Revlon's Colorstay original concealer or L'Oreal Infallible will find this underwhelming, as it's a formula for us who love a natural look.

Staying power: This lasts well on my dry skin. The day of the test I checked a few times at the end of the day and most of it was still on. Usually I'm not bothered with how my makeup looks during the day, so I wasn't paying attention on one of many days I wore it later.

Shades: I got all shades that are sold in Slovenia: 001 Universal Neutralizer, 005 Fair, 015 Light, 030 Light medium and 050 Medium Deep. There are 17 shades in total, but none are lighter than 005 Fair. There is a shade 001 Universal neutralizer and 002 Universal brightener that are used as the first layer to create a more even and lifted effect. 001 is a slightly peachy shade, but it's too dark to work on me, so it's better suited for deeper shades than Fair or Light. Fair is a bit too dark for me, but it still works without looking very off. Shade 015 Light is the same depth as 005 Fair, except it's yellow toned. Photoready's Candid concealer in Fair is lighter than shade Fair in Skin Awaken line, while 015 Light (Skin Awaken) is similar to Colorstay Full Coverage concealer in the same (name of the) shade. 030 is similar to 310 Warm Golden in the Colorstay Full Cover foundation range, but more yellow.

Packaging: This has a sponge applicator that Revlon say is antibacterial and I like it because it reminds me somewhat of Maybelline the Eraser except this is smaller. It's not a soft sponge, but it's like most such concealer I've tried, for example from Trend it Up and L.O.V. It can't be used for blending as well as Maybelline's the Eraser, but I like that it's a squeeze tube instead of a wind up mechanism.

While I'm not a fan of the matte, high-coverage original Colorstay formula, this is much more suited for my skin and preferences. It's overall quite similar to the Candid concealer, but thanks to the applicator and a slightly more pigmented formula, I can get more coverage with a thinner layer. Still I love the ingredients list of Candid more and that's what sways me to picking that one more than this one, though they both look about the same on my skin and if you're picking between the two, get the one that's currently cheaper or the one whose applicator appeals more to you.

Have a great day!
